Will Rogers, despite his remarkable statistics and achievements at Mississippi State, remains an underappreciated talent in the realm of college football. Throughout his time at Mississippi State, Rogers made a significant impact, starting 40 games and amassing 12,315 passing yards with 94 touchdowns. He set an impressive 29 school records, cementing his legacy in the program’s history. However, since transferring to the University of Washington, his profile has not seen a corresponding rise, leaving him under the radar in preseason quarterback rankings and lacking a strong national presence.
Rogers himself is aware of this lack of recognition. He attributes it largely to a challenging 2023 season marred by a significant setback. During a game against Western Michigan, Rogers demonstrated his skill by throwing three touchdown passes, leading to a 41-28 victory. Unfortunately, this game also marked a turning point in his season as he sustained a left shoulder injury. This injury forced him to the sidelines for over a month, causing him to miss four critical games. Mississippi State struggled in his absence, losing three of those four games, which further diminished Rogers’ visibility and impact on the national stage.
Now at Washington, Rogers finds himself nearly 2,500 miles from his previous college environment, fully recovered and eager to conclude his college football career on a high note. His daily drive to improve is fueled by his upbringing as the son of a coach and his own aspirations of playing professionally. Rogers is currently competing in Husky fall camp, where he is one of four quarterbacks vying for the starting position. His competition includes freshman Demond Williams Jr., transfer Shea Kuykendall from Northern Colorado, and junior walk-on Teddy Purcell.
As the Huskies prepare for their season opener on August 31 against Weber State, Rogers is focused on leveraging Washington’s pro-style offense to showcase his talents. He hopes to attract the attention of professional football scouts and enhance his prospects for the future. With a renewed sense of optimism about his health and opportunities, Rogers is ready to embrace the upcoming season with enthusiasm and determination, aiming to prove his worth on the field and elevate his standing in the eyes of the football community.
