Huskies Land Dynamic Wide Receiver Omari Evans from Penn State

The Washington Huskies have made a splash in the transfer portal by securing wide receiver Omari Evans from Penn State. Evans, a 6-foot, 190-pound standout, brings speed, experience, and a proven track record to Montlake, addressing a critical need in Washington’s receiving corps. With just one year of eligibility remaining, Evans is primed to make an immediate impact for the Huskies as they gear up for their debut season in the Big Ten.
A native of Texas, Evans was a highly regarded three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He chose Penn State over several suitors and steadily grew into a key offensive weapon during his time with the Nittany Lions. As a freshman, he caught five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. His sophomore season showcased his deep-threat potential, highlighted by a 60-yard touchdown among his 94 receiving yards.
It was his junior campaign, however, that solidified Evans as a top-tier receiver. Starting in six games, he hauled in 21 receptions for 415 yards and five touchdowns, averaging an impressive 20 yards per catch. His ability to stretch the field and deliver explosive plays was a hallmark of his game, exemplified by a standout performance against Kent State, where he tallied 116 yards and a touchdown on just four catches.
Despite playing in a Penn State offense that leaned heavily on its running game and star tight end Tyler Warren, Evans emerged as a reliable target, finishing second among wide receivers with 38 targets. His Average Depth of Target (ADOT) was an eye-popping 20.8 yards, underscoring his value as a downfield threat.
For the Huskies, Evans’ arrival fills a void left by departing veterans Jeremiah Hunter and Giles Jackson, as well as the brief tenure of Johntay Cook II, who was dismissed after transferring from Texas. With Evans in the mix, Washington gains a seasoned playmaker to complement standout receiver Denzel Boston and rising talent Rashid Williams. His nearly 800 collegiate snaps add much-needed experience to a receiver room otherwise leaning heavily on young, unproven players.
The addition of Evans, Washington’s 14th transfer this cycle, underscores the program’s commitment to bolstering its offensive firepower. Evans visited Montlake on January 21st after exploring opportunities at Texas Tech, Tennessee, and Syracuse, ultimately deciding that Washington was the perfect fit for his final collegiate season.
Evans’ presence also bridges the gap between departing veterans and incoming freshmen, ensuring continuity and leadership within the receiving corps. His ability to stretch the field and capitalize on big-play opportunities will provide quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with another potent weapon in the Huskies’ aerial attack.
As Washington sets its sights on contending in the Big Ten, all eyes will be on Omari Evans to help elevate the Huskies’ passing game to new heights. His proven track record, combined with the opportunity to thrive in a dynamic offense, makes him a player to watch in 2025. Welcome to Seattle, Omari—it’s time to shine in the Big Ten!
