Washington Adds Veteran QB Kai Horton from Tulane to Bolster Depth

Washington has added experienced quarterback Kai Horton to its roster, as the former Tulane signal-caller announced his commitment to the Huskies via Instagram. Horton, a 6-foot-4, 219-pound redshirt senior, provides much-needed depth behind sophomore starter Demond Williams Jr.

Horton spent the past four seasons at Tulane, appearing in 13 games and completing 64 of 123 passes for 853 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. In 2024, he played in just one game against Southeastern Louisiana, completing his only pass attempt for nine yards. After initially entering the transfer portal following the 2023 season, Horton chose to remain at Tulane for another year before re-entering the portal after the 2024 season and ultimately committing to Washington.

A former three-star recruit from Carthage (Texas) High School, Horton led his team to back-to-back 4A state championships in his junior and senior years. He was ranked as the 27th-best pro-style quarterback in his class by 247Sports.com.

At Washington, Horton will join a quarterback room that previously lacked experience behind Williams. The Huskies’s sophomore signal-caller took over late in the 2024 season and shined in Washington’s Sun Bowl matchup against Louisville, completing 26 of 32 passes for 374 yards and four touchdowns while adding 48 rushing yards and another score. For the season, Williams completed 82 of 105 passes for 944 yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception, along with 282 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Prior to Horton’s commitment, Washington’s only other scholarship quarterbacks were fourth-year junior Shea Kuykendall, who has yet to take a snap for the Huskies after transferring from Northern Colorado, and two true freshmen, Dash Beierly and Treston (Kinia) McMillan, who enrolled this month.

Horton’s arrival brings a veteran presence to the Huskies’ quarterback room, giving Washington a reliable backup option behind Williams as the team prepares for the 2025 season.
