Quarterback is the one position you can’t fake. If UW doesn’t land a viable starter-level option quickly, everything downstream suffers: portal receivers hesitate, linemen think twice, and spring becomes a holding pattern instead of a launchpad.
Washington didn’t just lose a quarterback. Washington lost the plan. When your presumed future at QB hits the transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag, it’s not a normal roster update — it’s an emergency siren. The Huskies are now forced into the most modern of modern college football realities:
Find a starting quarterback immediately… or watch the entire season’s ceiling collapse in January. And that’s the part that should irritate every fan — even the ones who support player empowerment. Because what we’re watching isn’t “kids getting paid.” What we’re watching is free agency without rules, and it’s eating the sport alive. So let’s talk about the only thing that matters now:
The portal has become college football’s fastest roster-reset button, and Washington is pressing it with intention. The working expectation around the program is that UW could add around 10 transfers this cycle, give or take, depending on how the outgoing numbers settle.
That’s not “panic.” That’s modern roster math — especially when you’re trying to stay Big Ten-ready week after week.
Portal trackers have Mohammed listed among Washington players who have entered the portal this week. From there, reporting shifted immediately to potential destinations — with multiple reports indicating Mohammed is visiting California (Cal) and that additional official visits are being planned.
Over the last two days, I just watched four national playoff games. Not only were the games fun to watch, even Indiana’s blowout of Alabama, but they vindicated my frustration since 1998. Whether two teams, or twelve, if you are going to have a national championship, you can not call it a National Championship unless teams from throughout the nation are involved.
In Transfer Portal action the last week, there has already been a couple expected, if not understood, portal entrants leaving the Washington football Program. However, there has been a few confusing and concerning entrants that could jeopardize the progress the Washington football team made during the last two seasons. Unfortunately, there is little the coaching staff can do about it. Free agency is alive and well down on Montlake.
The Washington Huskies secured a dominant 38-10 victory over the Boise State Broncos in the LA Bowl this past Saturday, December 13, 2025. The game, which marked the final contest for the LA Bowl, was defined by Washington’s ability to capitalize on numerous Boise State turnovers. After Boise State opened the scoring with a field goal, Washington responded with 38 unanswered points to control the game.
Tonight, the lights come on at SoFi Stadium, the bowl season begins, and the Washington Huskies take center stage.
This isn’t just another bowl game.
This is a tone-setter.
This is a measuring stick.
This is a chance to remind the country exactly who Washington football is.
The Bucked Up LA Bowl pits the Huskies against Boise State, a proud program with a history of bowl surprises and underdog swagger. They’re confident. They’re tough. They’re not intimidated. Good.
Bowl season opens Saturday night with a West Coast clash as the Washington Huskies face the Boise State Broncos in the Bucked Up LA Bowl at SoFi Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET, and the matchup offers Washington a chance to close its season with a statement win on a national stage.
Washington enters the game at 8–4, coming off its first season navigating the grind of the Big Ten. Boise State, 9–4, arrives fresh off a Mountain West Championship run and carrying the confidence of a program long known for punching above its weight in bowl games.
We here at Huskies Central have been watching National Recruiting since 1980. We have watched the disappointing drama of running back Kevin Wilhite to the big wins of Shaq Thompson. I can remember where I was walking on the sidewalk through Central Washington University heading up to the football office when I read in the paper about the commitment of an offensive lineman by the name of Bern Brostek. Every year, new drama. Surprise names and, always, a few disappointments.
With Florida and LSU hiring new head coaches, the remaining national openings — UCLA and Penn State — have Washington fans asking a familiar question:
Are we going to go through this every offseason with Jedd Fisch?
The Washington Huskies entered Saturday’s showdown with Oregon hoping to end the Ducks’ playoff march and reassert control over one of the West Coast’s most heated rivalries. Instead, a late-game collapse and a string of missed opportunities doomed UW in a frustrating 26–14 loss at Husky Stadium.
