Penn State Announces White Out Game

Welcome to the Big Ten, Washington Huskies.

The Huskies will be part of Penn State’s famous monochromatic celebration, known for its electric atmosphere and sea of white-clad fans, during their most visible home game of the season. This game marks Washington’s first-ever trip to State College, coming just a week after the Huskies face the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The game times for both matchups are still to be announced. Typically, the White Out opponent, date, and time are known by the end of May, but the expanded Big Ten and various TV partners have complicated the 2024 scheduling process.

Penn State has also revealed themes for other home games this week, but no start times yet.

The Nittany Lions will host their Stripe Out and Helmet Stripe games—warm-ups to the White Out where much of Beaver Stadium dons white—against UCLA on Oct. 5 and Ohio State on Nov. 2.

Will Washington help Penn State keep its White Out streak alive?

Last month, Penn State coach James Franklin expressed his desire to include all the key elements of a premier opponent, prime-time viewing, and a September-October schedule each year. However, timing and scheduling complexities have often prevailed.

The Washington game will be the second-latest full-stadium White Out in Penn State history. Only the 2015 game against Michigan, held on Nov. 21, was later. That game was also the only White Out to kick off before 3:30 p.m.
